Media are invited to attend Fort Lee’s Women’s Equality Day Observance – a celebration of the progress and achievements women have made throughout history and their continued determination to be represented equally in society.

Themed “Nevertheless She Persisted,” the event is hosted by the Staff and Faculty Company, 71st Support Battalion. The speaker is Col. Beth Behn, commander, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary), at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.

Aug. 26 is designated as the official Women’s Equality Day. This occasion has been recognized since 1973 by presidential proclamation after a bill introduced by Congresswoman Bella Abzug was approved by Congress. The day is an opportunity to celebrate the victories for equality that women have won and to rededicate the country’s commitment to eliminate discrimination against women.
