FORT LEE, Virginia – A Fort Lee service member who tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday has been identified as a California National Guard Soldier in his 30s, on temporary assignment to Army Logistics University.
As a student at ALU, he is lodged in the adjacent Holiday Inn Express on post where he had been self-quarantined since March 17, pending the COVID-19 test results received Tuesday.
There are no plans to move the individual from his room at this time and he is receiving appropriate medical care in isolation there. According to the clinic, the Soldier is now “asymptomatic and may be able to return to duty this week following consultation with his medical provider.”
The Kenner Army Health Clinic Contact Trace Team is continuing work to identify and notify individuals who may have been in contact with the Soldier, using the CDC’s COVID-19 case report form. The data gathered helps inform virus mitigation and treatment efforts at local, state and national levels.
Initial reports indicate the individual was a ‘model patient’ who immediately notified his chain of command and Kenner Army Health Clinic upon the first sign of illness, and then self-quarantined to minimize potential spread of the virus.
Post leaders issued guidance requesting service members, families and civilians in the community to seek medical attention if they display symptoms, or have come into contact with a known source of the virus. Those individuals are asked to self-quarantine until the return of a negative test result.
Team Lee members and families are encouraged to employ prevention measures including practicing strict hygiene, social distancing, staying home if sick, self-isolating if exposed and contacting your healthcare provider for notification of symptoms.
