FORT LEE, Va. – Media are invited to participate in an Army birthday celebration with Soldiers, family members and civilian employees at the Lee Theater June 14.

Admission to the midday celebration is free and open to the public. It will feature remarks by Brig. Gen. Rodney D. Fogg, Quartermaster General and QM School commandant. The 392nd Army Band will perform, and senior installation leaders will be joined by the youngest and oldest Soldiers on post to cut an Army birthday cake. The winners of the 2017 Combined Arms Support Command Ultimate Warrior competition also will be announced. In addition, more than 15 enlistees from the Colonial Heights Recruiting Center will be sworn in during the observance. The national anthem and “God Bless the USA” are scheduled to be performed by Soldiers.
The cake cutting is one of two planned events for the Army birthday. Early that morning, military units from across post will participate in a 3 1/2-mile run, led by Brig. Gen. Jeff Drushal, Chief of Transportation. It will begin at 5:30 a.m. in the CASCOM parking lot. Additional elements will join the procession as it passes through post. In 2016, the joint service formation was estimated to be more than a mile long. All participating troops will form up in the CASCOM parking lot to hear remarks from Drushal at the conclusion of the run.
