FORT LEE, Va. — Media representatives are invited to cover the Fort Lee Butterfly Release, an annual remembrance event in which Gold Star Families honor fallen loved ones, set for May 25 at the Memorial Garden.

WHAT: Gold Star Family Butterfly Release

WHEN: 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 25

WHERE: Army Community Service Memorial Garden, 1231 Mahone Ave.

Installation leaders will join Gold Star Families and supporters at the event. Following remarks by the featured speaker, the honored guests will each release a butterfly in tribute to their departed service member. A Gold Star Family is the immediate spouse, child, mom, dad or sibling of a fallen service member who died while serving their country in uniform.

Fort Lee’s Survivor Outreach Program hosts the event that traditionally takes place just ahead of the nation’s Memorial Day observance.
