RICHMOND, Va. – Media is invited to cover an event in which recruiters in the Virginia area are hosting 83 of the U.S. Army’s newest recruits at a Mega Future Soldier Event April 23 at Fort Lee.
What: Mega Future Soldier Event – Fort Lee Asset demonstration, training, and Future Soldier Swear-in

During the Mega Future Soldier event, recruits and family members will be able to engage and experience live demonstrations from Fort Lee units to include K9 – Military Working Dogs, Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicles (MRAP), EOD Robotics, Night Vision & Virtual Reality goggles, Fuelers, and an Army Parachute Display. The demonstrations and training exercises will give recruits first-hand experience of what it is like to join the Army. This event is in support of United States Army Recruiting Command’s Army Service Week, a week long push to showcase the value of military service.
Major General Mark Simerly and Lieutenant Colonel Eric Peterson, will host a public oath of enlistment ceremony at the conclusion of the Mega Future Soldier event at 2:30 pm. The Future Soldiers participating are young men and women from across Virginia and West Virginia. Immediately following the ceremony, Future Soldiers will be able to connect with Fort Lee Soldiers, learn about their experiences, and ask questions about topics such as basic training and Advanced Individual Training.
